The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
