The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast this spring, as confirmed by the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together soon."
The last series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season begins with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
Yet, his case could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a seventh installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Show History
The drama launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
