The former Liverpool manager states rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club remains an option. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the notion that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I will never coach any other side within the country. So that means should it be the Reds...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on which situations would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I don’t miss standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip interviews repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. Success was frequent so there was often great spirits around the place. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, though he denied the notion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker such as Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong well-judged squad. No need for concern over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a vehicle collision together with his sibling this past summer.
“How do you replace a person like him? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. Putting it into words is tough about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Dealing with that emotionally is difficult. Impossible.”
