Recent Refinery Assault Reveals 'No Protected Places in the Russian Far Hinterland'
Ukraine's drones have hit Russia's Bashneft facility in Ufa, located approximately 1,400 km from Ukraine, causing explosions and a fire, as reported by a source in the Ukrainian intelligence agency.
This marks the latest Ukrainian security service long-range attack in the region in the recent weeks. Those attacks demonstrate that there are no safe places in the distant backlines of the Russian Federation.
Ukrainian President Urges US President to Broker Ceasefire in the Conflict
The Ukrainian leader appealed to President Trump to facilitate a truce in the Ukrainian conflict over a call on the weekend.
"If a conflict can be ended in a particular zone, then certainly other wars can be halted as well, including the Russian war," Zelenskyy said, hailing Trump's "remarkable" Middle East ceasefire plan and urging the American leader to pressure the Russian government into talks.
Russian Assaults Claim Victims in the Country
Moscow's assaults on Ukraine resulted in the deaths of 5 individuals on Saturday and cut power to sections of Ukraine's south Odesa area, as stated by authorities in Ukraine.
Two people lost their lives in a religious building in the town when it was hit, per municipal sources.
In Russia's border region of the Belgorod region, a vehicle operator was lost his life by a drone assault, according to local officials.
Energy Recovery Operations in Kyiv
Operations continued on the weekend to recover electricity in the Ukrainian capital, after assaults.
Power had been returned to more than 800,000 citizens by the weekend and the major power firm said the main efforts to repair the grid was concluded though some outages persisted.
Anti-Aircraft Efforts and Drone Jamming
The Ukrainian air defences downed or disrupted 54 of 78 total enemy drones sent against the country in the dark hours, the air force reported on the weekend.
Russia's military authorities said it shot down 42 UAVs from Ukraine over Russian territory.
Cuban Government Refutes Claims of Providing Forces to the War
Havana on the weekend refuted US assertions it has deployed troops to fight in the hostilities, while declaring the government "are without exact details about Cuban nationals" participating "independently" or "as part of the armed units of the conflicting parties".
The government department in the capital announced 26 Cubans had been convicted to jail sentences varying between 5 to 14 years for mercenary activity since last September when news circulated of Cuban nationals being deployed to the front in Ukraine.
Surrender Initiative Project Discloses Data on Cuban Involvement
The surrender initiative, a Ukrainian government project that promotes adversaries to give up, said in May: "We reliably know the identities and information of one thousand and twenty-eight Cuban nationals who enlisted with the Moscow's troops in recently."
The Cuban foreign ministry commented of those who might be participating: "Undeniably that no individual have the support, commitment, or authorization of the government in Havana for their actions."
Relatives of Cuban nationals who departed to the Russian Federation in the year informed international media at the time that their relatives had been misled into enlisting through ads on digital networks.
