Fans Urge Detainment of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are calling for that a man who jumped a barricade and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and lunging at Grande while the actors walked down a yellow carpet surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being escorted out of the gathering by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "released after being detained", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram account features videos of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last December.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," wrote an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his actions.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Well-being
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another comment on Instagram.
Several fans also questioned guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande seemed startled when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted comforting her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the incident, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The film, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a dual interpretation of the popular theatrical show Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was adorned in a light pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning film of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen award recognitions, earning a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
