Democrats Condemn Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a contingent of Democratic representatives of being "traitors" and stated they should be taken into custody and punished "with execution" following their posting of a controversial video.

The Recording That Sparked the Controversy

The video footage, shared on earlier this week, includes six Democratic congress members who in the past worked in defense or defense roles.

"Similar to us, you all swore an oath to defend and uphold this national charter," the lawmakers stated in the 90-second video. "Currently, the threats to our democratic foundation don't only come from foreign nations, but from domestically. Our laws are unambiguous, you can reject illegal orders, you can refuse unlawful commands, you have to refuse improper directives. No one has to carry out orders that contravene the legal system or our national charter."

The Former President's Furious Response

The clip seemed to trigger a furious reply from the former president.

On Thursday morning, Trump posted on his social media platform: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Nation should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another post, he wrote: "This represents really serious, and Dangerous to our Nation. Their words cannot be allowed to persist. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also shared a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives Respond

Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, House Democratic leader issued a combined announcement censuring the statements.

"Violent politics has no position in America," they stated. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our nation with tremendous national pride and distinction. We clearly denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and risky calls for execution against elected officials, and appeal to House Republicans to strongly do the same."

The party representatives also mentioned that they had been in contact with law enforcement "to make certain the safety of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must without delay delete these extreme social media posts and withdraw his violent discourse before he leads to violence," the declaration stated.

Officials' Strong Reaction

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a response.

"We identify as former service members and defense specialists who love this United States and swore an oath to safeguard and support the constitution of the United States," they stated. "This commitment is permanent, and we aim to keep it. No threat, intimidation, or incitement will stop us from that important duty."

"The significant point is that the ex-president deems it liable to punishment by capital punishment for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they stated. "Armed forces members should understand that we have their protection as they execute their pledge to the constitution and duty to follow only legal commands. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They stated: "Every American must join forces and denounce the president's requests for our execution and partisan aggression. This is a period for principled stance."

Additional Partisan Responses

The Opposition leader also denounced Trump's comments and shared on social media: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is calling for the execution of elected officials."

He continued: "This represents an outright THREAT. Every Senator, each house member, all citizens – regardless of party – should denounce this immediately and without qualification."

The Conservative official supported Trump's allegation that the Democrats had been involved in "treason", characterizing the video as "highly unsuitable", commenting: "This constitutes very dangerous, you have prominent officials of the legislature instructing soldiers to ignore directives, I think that is without precedent in American history."

The Republican leader also reportedly informed the press that in what he examined of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the violation of treason" but that "legal experts have to analyze the language and decide all that."

Administration Statement

During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when questioned by a journalist, "Does the president want to put to death members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson answered: "Certainly not."

"It's important to note about what the former president is reacting to," the spokesperson stated. "We see sitting members of the US Congress who worked together to organize a digital communication to individuals of the American armed forces, to active duty service members encouraging them to ignore the executive's lawful orders."

She stated: "The integrity of our defense system relies on the hierarchy, and if that chain of command is compromised, it can result in people getting killed, it can cause confusion, and that's what these elected officials ... are basically encouraging."
