Britain's Katie Boulter says she feels she has to "choose between my physical health and my professional position" as the competition persists for a spot in the upcoming January Australian Open primary competition.

While the typical WTA Tour tournament schedule is finished, there are still standing points to be gained in Latin American countries, neighboring countries, multiple sites and France.

The women's competitor lineup for the opening Grand Slam of the upcoming season will be calculated from the international positions of early December, which could present a dilemma for athletes approaching the cut.

Injury Concerns

Former British top-ranked player Boulter suffered an abductor in her last tournament of the year in Hong Kong last month, and is now weighing up whether to compete in the WTA 125 Challenger event in Angers, the European nation, in the first week of December.

The athlete's recent injury, and the situation she would need to secure at least multiple victories in the French tournament to improve her standing, means she may probably end up not participating.

Different Systems

In opposition, men's competitors are not confronting the same predicament, as for the initial instance the men's Australian Open competitor lineup will be created from current week's standings, which is the ATP's official year-end position determination.

The adjustment is intended to discouraging competitors from pursuing standing points during what is essentially the off-season.

Professional Adjustments

This season has been a difficult one for Boulter.

She achieved merely 14 elite major tournament contests and lately parted ways with trainer Biljana Veselinovic after a lengthy working relationship in which she won multiple WTA championships.

"Biljana is an exceptional instructor, and an exceptionally good person as well, which makes things very difficult," Boulter said.

The pursuit for a replacement instructor is currently ongoing, looking for an individual who has top-tier expertise as Boulter maintains the belief she can be a top-20 athlete.

Career Objectives

"Moving ahead with a replacement instructor, an important factor I'm very clear on is that they are going to be an individual who has a lot of knowledge in how to advance to the very top level of this profession," she stated.

"I've been positioned as advanced as 23 and I believe I can return there. I don't think my level has gone anywhere, I think the steadiness needs to develop.

"My objective is not simply to be ranked fifty, 40, 30, 20 - we've accomplished that. The goal is to be within the elite group."
